Couples Therapy

There are many reasons couples seek therapy, often surrounding conflict and disconnection. The following are the most common issues couples come to my office seeking counseling: conflict, disconnection, infidelity, adjusting to the empty nest, divorce discernment, impact of stress on relationship, impact of physical and mental health, parenting, co-parenting, step parenting, and lack of intimacy.

I use the principles of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT) and the clients' input in order to address the questions they often ask themselves about their most important relationship: "Do I matter deeply to my partner? Will he/she be there for me when I need them most? Do I feel safe and secure enough in this relationship to be my full and authentic self?"

These questions are typically at the root of why couples argue and why they become distant from one another. EFT -- a highly researched, effective, and evidence-based treatment -- focuses on the emotional bond between partners, presuming that most relational problems arise from a disruption in this bond. It helps partners learn not only to be more open and trusting with each other, but also to reach out for one another more effectively. For more information about EFT go to ICEEFT.com.

Family Therapy

Often families undergo stressful life situations creating loss and conflict. Even with the most well-intentioned parenting, children can be impacted negatively. During these times ordinary parenting skills and techniques may fail parents. I will help your family learn new ways to approach these challenges and help your children adjust and heal from loss, a change in family dynamics, and for those who were adopted, from past trauma and neglect.

Do you wish to understand your child better? Do you often feel at a loss as to how to help them navigate the complexities of school and peer interactions? Do you want to feel closer to them and have less arguing and conflict? Allow me to help your family move through the difficult times so that you and your children can thrive. I use a variety of techniques that are attachment focused when working with families.
